The letter that said she had too much money
I teach de-escalation now, to officers, which is a sentence I did not expect to be writing. It happened because I had spent years on the other side of that conversation and was tired of winning arguments I did not need to win. Nobody thanks the person who made the hard job possible by refusing to do the easy thing, and BLM has been that person for a decade. This post has the same restraint and the same clear-eyed tone, which is the only register I trust on this subject.
Nine of us, a folding table, and a room we have to leave by nine. It is the least impressive thing I have ever been part of and it has done more good than anything else I have been in. That ratio is the whole lesson, and I think this post is about it too without needing to announce itself. Black Lives Matter has always been a movement that knows which of its rooms actually matters. Grateful for the reminder. What is your nine?
